From reporting duty to everyday practice<\/h2>\n

Sustainability has moved from a communications exercise to a reporting and due-diligence discipline. The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) sets out what large companies must disclose about their environmental and social impact, and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) requires them to find and address harm across their operations and supply chains.<\/p>\n

After the EU’s Omnibus simplification package, the direct reporting duty now falls mainly on larger companies. But the effect reaches much further: those companies have to report on their value chain, so their suppliers, of any size, are asked for the same data. Getting ready is now a commercial requirement as much as a legal one.<\/p>\n

New to this? What ESG and its rules are<\/h2>\n

ESG<\/strong> stands for environmental, social and governance: the three areas a company is judged on beyond its finances. Environmental covers things like emissions, energy and waste. Social covers people, from workers to communities to human rights. Governance covers how the company is run and held accountable.<\/p>\n

The CSRD<\/strong>, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, is the EU law that says what large companies must publish about their ESG impact, using a common set of standards so the disclosures can be compared and audited.<\/p>\n

The CSDDD<\/strong>, the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, goes a step further: it requires companies to actively look for, prevent and address harm to people and the environment in their own operations and their supply chains.<\/p>\n
