What the EU AI Act is<\/h2>\n      <p>The EU AI Act is a European law that sets rules for how artificial intelligence can be built and used. It is the first law of its kind anywhere, and it applies to any organisation offering or using AI systems that reach people in the EU, wherever the organisation itself is based.<\/p>\n      <p><strong>It sorts AI by risk.<\/strong> Systems considered unacceptable are banned. High-risk systems, such as those used in hiring, carry strict obligations. Most everyday tools sit in a lighter category with lighter duties. The rules you have to follow depend on which category your tools fall into.<\/p>\n      <p><strong>Its first duty is training.<\/strong> Before any of the technical requirements, Article 4 asks organisations to take measures supporting the development of AI literacy among the people who use and oversee AI. It is the obligation that touches every employee, whatever your size or sector.<\/p>\n      <p><strong>The dates that matter.<\/strong> The literacy duty has applied since February 2025. In July 2026 the Digital Omnibus (Regulation (EU) 2026\/1744) reframed it as an obligation of effort rather than of result: you must take measures, and be able to show them.
