ESG & Sustainability

The ESRS reporting standards

The standards companies actually report against, and the body that develops them.

The European Sustainability Reporting Standards set out what companies in scope of the CSRD must disclose. They are developed with technical advice from EFRAG and adopted by the European Commission through delegated acts.

What the standards cover

The first set is sector-agnostic, applying to all companies in scope. They span environmental topics including climate, pollution, water, biodiversity and resource use, alongside social and governance disclosures.

Double materiality in practice

The standards require companies to assess both how sustainability matters affect them financially and how their activities affect people and the environment. That assessment determines which disclosures actually apply.

Simplification is ongoing

The standards have been subject to revision aimed at reducing reporting burden. Anyone building a reporting process should confirm they are working from the current version.
